Golden Roots Kitchen is a flavor driven organic prepared meal service that places quality of ingredients first. We believe that a healthy, active, and satisfying life begins with how well we are nourished. GRK features primarily plant based dishes as well as carefully selected pasture raised animal proteins and wild fish to offer customers an opportunity to curate their own weekly meal plan with ease and efficiency. Creative weekly menus are inspired by international cultures and packed with fresh herbs and spices. GRK was born out of the belief that food is the foundation of a strong community and one's health, and we are inspired to serve you through thoughtful and holistic meal preparation.
Joining Golden Roots means becoming part of a community that allows us to pool our resources and cut down on our environmental footprint. With strong intention and some extra effort we can eliminate much of the packaging and waste that most meal kit services generate.
We use only reusable glass jars and compostable plant based packaging for your meals. Each dish packaged in a jar has a $1 deposit fee included. Wash and return your jars and lids and we happily return your deposit. Our eco-friendly plant based packaging is reusable and can be composted after use.
Taking the extra step of using traditional preparation methods that involve soaking and sprouting means that vegetable based proteins like nuts, seeds, grains and legumes are much more digestible and bioavailable. We know from our personal experience that maintaining a primarily vegetable based diet requires these extra steps to ensure proper nourishment and allow you to have sustained energy, strong digestion and healthy skin.
Brett has been working with GRK almost since it's conception, first as an intern while finishing her BFA at UCSC and now as a key staff member. With an eye for design and all things current, Brett keeps us looking fresh on social media and is passionate about finding fun and exciting recipes to test in our kitchen, as well as her own! Got a GRK question? Brett heads our customer service and liaisons with our wonderful clients. Outside of the kitchen find Brett at live music, hitting the farmers market, or exploring all things art and design. Generally speaking, Brett keeps us cool.
Megan has been training in the nutrition and wholistic wellness field for over 5 years and certainly believes that good health starts with what you eat. She is a lover of raw foods, routine cleansing and herbal supplementation. Inspired to explore the healing arts through muscle testing and powerful foods and herbs, Meagan is committed to a lifetime of learning how to thrive holistically. Oh yea, did we mention she holds it down in the kitchen?
Melissa is the queen of our hearts! Mother to a beautiful son and caretaker of a fabulous garden, Melissa keeps us on track in the kitchen as our resident dish Queen! Always arriving with a present of fresh flowers and herbs, her upbeat and positive attitude contributes to the great vibes in our kitchen each week. Miss a pick up? No problem! Melissa holds down our late pick up window on Wednesdays from 4-6 PM.
Jansen is our king of logistics and weekly delivery manager. Quick to jump in for an array of needs that pop up each week- Jansen comes to our rescue! With a background in graphic design and video game development, Jansen is a solution oriented thinker and a huge support for GRK's technical needs.
GRK owner Melanie Geist is a graduate from the Natural Chef program at Bauman College, a holistic nutrition & culinary arts college in Berkeley California. Melanie's love of cooking and baking stemmed out of a desire to heal herself and nourish others with satisfying food. She strives to integrate healthy eating into an accessible lifestyle for herself and her community. Inspired by international travel and cuisine, Melanie is partial to Eastern flavors and as many herbs as can possibly be picked in the kitchen. With dreams of starting an organic farm you can hopefully find Melanie knee deep in soil whenever out of the kitchen.
Martina and Melanie forged a partnership in 2015 after attending Bauman College together. Martina is one of those "super tasters' who picks up on the subtleties of a dish and can appreciate both the complex and perfectly simple. Martina was instrumental in the creation of GRK and while she has moved on to start a family in San Jose she continues to be a pillar of support for our business.
